Founded by Judith Derbyshire in 2011, it is a specialist firm of solicitors to help clients obtain probate – the process of transferring the assets of someone who has died to their beneficiaries while providing a helpful and sympathetic service to people who have been bereaved.
Unlike most lawyers Purely Probate agrees to a fixed price unless the estate is particularly complex. This means that clients will not have to worry that Purely Probate will charge on a time spent basis.
The solicitor who drew up the Will is often instructed to obtain Probate. Sometimes the solicitor is holding the original Will; occasionally they are named as Executor. In either case, there is no obligation to use them. Purely Probate are experts in this field.
A local client said “I trust Judith and her staff totally and have no doubt they provide a top-quality service at a totally fair price, and this trust and quality of service is what matters most to me. They gave clear advice without “Jargon” and clear explanations. They had patience and efficiently dealt with all matters as required, and in an expedient manner.”
Purely Probate has also earned an international reputation providing an estate administration advisory service to the executors, beneficiaries, accountants and financial institutions when a British national dies while living outside of the United Kingdom.
A client in the United States said “I would like to take the time to thank you for your keen and professional way of handling this estate for us. I would highly recommend Purely Probate to anyone that may need estate assistance. It’s been very nice working with you, thank you again.”
Clients do not need to be physically close to our offices in Somerset. Although we like to meet our clients, we can get to know them by telephone, e-mail, letter and even Zoom. Documents can be sent securely worldwide.
Purely probate is celebrating over ten years in business and recently welcomed two new lawyers who have joined the team:
Caroline Williams joins us after a career break while her children were small. She qualified at Burges Salmon in Bristol in 2004 and went on to work in the private client department at Charles Russell Speechlys in London before returning to the West Country.
Her specialism is inheritance planning and Will drafting for clients with assets in more than one jurisdiction, whether they are based in the UK or overseas. Within this area, she has had extensive experience liaising with French notaries on cross-border UK-French issues. Caroline has a detailed knowledge of trusts and has had many years of experience advising on trusts and their taxation and the preparation of trust documents, and their ongoing management.
Georgie Harding is relocating to her home county of Somerset from Lincolnshire where she worked in the private client department at Chattertons Solicitors. She qualified at QualitySolicitors Gould and Swayne in Street in 2015.
Georgie specialises in advising and drafting Wills, from the simple to complex, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate work.
Both Caroline and Georgie will work flexitime, juggling childcare and work. This is becoming quite a pattern at Purely Probate.
