We have recently been assisting Indian citizens with applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration for UK estates.
In most of these cases, the applicants were the relatives of eminent composers and musicians in the ‘Bollywood’ film industry in Mumbai. The UK estate consisted solely of royalties earned in the UK through the Performing Right Society (the PRS) and the successor rights of these royalties could not be paid to the estate in India, without a UK Grant of Probate.
Via an Indian lawyer, we were able to gather the required information from the deceased’s family. If the estate did not have an Indian Grant of Probate or Will, we were able to apply for Letters of Administration by asking the Indian lawyer to prepare an affidavit attesting that the applicant was the person beneficially entitled to the estate according to the laws of India.
The lawyer in India said, “it is a fabulous experience for me to work with people like you. Our joint efforts will definitely bring happiness to the lives of people like my client”.
