We have had a busy year helping families when someone dies abroad or when someone has died with foreign assets.
With more and more people living internationally, we have had a little taste of the exotic at Purely Probate; we have helped a client in Australia deal with the estate of a Kenyan relative and also dealt with the affairs of a Canadian who died in Dubai.
The office was also excited to be asked to deal with an American involved in the Hollywood film industry with the transfer of UK shares belonging to his late wife.
This year we have continued to get work from Ireland; many Irish people have bank accounts or other assets in the UK, having lived or worked over here for some part of their lives.
Further afield we have helped a number of Australian clients with Australian Wills to obtain a resealed Grant in the UK, which allowed them to finally close UK bank accounts and put their family member’s estate administration to bed.
We have helped a family where some brothers inherited shares in a UK company, before emigrating and dying in their new homelands. We can help to obtain a Probate for UK shares allowing family members of someone who has passed away to benefit from the shares.
As 2016 draws to a close we wonder which countries we will deal with next year. If only home visits were necessary for foreign probates…!
