Currently the fee for applying for Probate is up to £210, no matter what the size of the estate.
From May 2017, subject to parliamentary approval, the fees will go up as follows:
| 0 to £50,000.00 | nil |
| £50,000.00 to £300,000.00 | £300.00 |
| 300,000.01 to £500,000.00 | £1,000.00 |
| 500,000.01 to 1 million | £4,000.00 |
| 1 million + to 1.6 million | £8,000.00 |
| 1.6 million + to 2 million | £12,000.00 |
| 2 million + | £20,000.00 |
If you know anyone who has recently lost a relative, who has not yet applied for probate, please encourage them not to delay.
Some people may assume that they do not need to get Probate, particularly when the first of a married couple dies. It may later turn out that Probate was required after all. If you have any doubts whether you or a friend might need Probate, please give us a call.
